About

There is a single light of science, and to brighten it anywhere is to brighten it everywhere.
– Isaac Asimov

I’m a writer, editor, and communicator who has turned my love of learning into a career dedicated to discovering and sharing the wonders of the world. As a kid who thrived on school and learning, I’m thrilled to have found a profession where curiosity is not only encouraged but required.

Currently, I serve as the editorial lead for heliophysics at NASA, where I oversee written content and major campaigns. In this role, I’ve marveled upon solar eclipses, witnessed rockets launch into space, and experienced the excitement of solar storms. I’m also proud to have been recognized with several awards for our team’s science communication efforts, including a Webby Award, two Shorty Awards, a NASA Group Achievement Award, and a Robert H. Goddard Honor Award. I’ve also held science writing and communication roles at Harvard University, STAT News at the Boston Globe, and Newsweek.

I was also selected to be published in the anthology The Stars from Outrider Press. My work received the following review from Booklist: “Abbey Interrante’s charming ‘I See the Moon and the Moon Sees Me’ is a love letter to astronomy deftly balanced against a love-hate relationship with a particular telescope.”

An occasional speaker, I’ve given talks and moderated panels at American Geophysics Union (AGU), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Library Association (ALA), and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) annual meetings and conferences. I’ve also had the joy of officiating multiple weddings.

I hold an M.A. in Science Writing from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Writing, Literature, and Publishing and minors in Science and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

Currently based in Maryland, I enjoy spending my free time reading, hiking, and watching at the stars.
